Community Education

CPIC is a leader in the development of targeted health education materials. We have extensive experience in creating culturally sensitive and appropriate messages in multiple mediums (written, web-based, conference) for healthcare professionals, lay health workers, large and small groups, and for underserved populations.

Kim Rhoads, MD, MS, MPH, the new Director of Cancer Education and Community Partnership for CPIC and CPIC’s formal partner, the Stanford Cancer Center. As a surgeon at Stanford and researcher who focuses on what to do about the fact that some groups are burdened more heavily by cancer than others, Dr. Rhoads shares the determination of CPIC research scientists to find ways of reducing cancer outcome disparities among racial and ethnic minorities in California.

Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts:  CPIC operates a Consumer 800 Number, providing women of low-income with access to screening and diagnostic services for breast and cervical cancer.  Every Woman Counts responds to 18,000 calls annually in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, and Vietnamese. About half of these women are referred for screening.

Community Education Program:  CPIC's comprehensive Cancer Education Program provides seminars, conferences, educational publications and websites for patients, families, the public and healthcare providers. These programs are tailored to the diverse cultural, ethnic and language needs of San Francisco Bay Area residents.
