Cancer Data & Statistics Overview

About Cancer Data

The Greater Bay Area Cancer Registry (GBACR) provides cancer information in two forms: (1) statistical (grouped) data and (2) individual data. The GBACR maintains strict standards of confidentiality and data quality. Names of patients, practitioners, and care facilities are never revealed when results from statistical analyses are shared on local, state, national, or global levels.

Cancer Data and Statistics for the General Public

Cancer data and statistics are available in several forms: registry reports and publications, fact sheets, reports on special topics, and custom tabulated data. In addition, as a state-mandated regional cancer registry, one of the responsibilities of the GBACR is to respond to requests from the public for cancer data about the Greater Bay Area.

Cancer Data for Researchers

The guidelines and application materials for applying for access to cancer registry data. To support the state legal mandate for cancer registration, the Greater Bay Area Cancer Registry facilitates cancer research by providing access to data needed by investigators to conduct research studies. These data are released only after requirements to protect confidentiality, set by state law, are met.

Registry News & Reports

CPIC's  Annual Incidence and Mortality Reports, as well as reports on special topics and recent publications. The annual report presents information on all new cancer cases and deaths occurring in the Greater Bay Area from 1988 to the latest year for which information is available.

Fact Sheets

Short summaries of information about specific types of cancer by geographic region: the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo counties), the Santa Clara region (Moneterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties), or the Greater Bay Area (all 9 counties).
