Research Interests:

  • Roles of social networks in cancer prevention and control
  • Interventions to reduce cancer health disparities
  • Influence of sociocultural factors, including discrimination, immigration, and culture, on cancer care and outcomes

Dr. Le is a social epidemiologist whose work centers on the role of the social environment in cancer health disparities and translation of these findings into solutions for improving community health. Her primary area of research is focused on identifying the role of social networks and support in influencing cancer-related health behaviors and outcomes in multiethnic populations. Dr. Le is also interested in applying social network theory and strategies to intervention studies to reduce cancer health disparities. Through UCSF and CPIC, she is currently involved with two large randomized controlled trials aimed at promoting colorectal cancer screening in Asian immigrant populations using lay health worker outreach. In one of these studies, she currently leads a research project to further explore the roles of social networks in influencing health behaviors in the Vietnamese community. Dr. Le’s research also examines the influence of sociocultural factors, including discrimination, immigration, and culture, on cancer care and outcomes in multiethnic populations. She currently collaborates with Dr. Scarlett Lin Gomez on a large population-based study of breast cancer survivors to investigate the effects of discrimination on breast cancer care and outcomes among diverse racial/ethnic groups in the San Francisco Bay Area.
